Librea

Terms of use

In force from 22 October 2026

Librea is free to use. Pro adds features to the same app with a licence key. Your documents stay yours and stay on your PC. Librea is provided as it is, so keep backups of what matters.

1. These terms

These terms cover Librea for Windows (the installer and the portable copy), its updates, the Pro licence and this website. Librea is made by the Librea team (“we”, “us”). By installing or using Librea you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use it.

2. Using Librea

You may install the free version on any computer you use and use it for personal, study or professional work, at no cost and with no time limit. You may copy the portable version for your own use.

Librea is licensed, not sold. We keep all rights in the software, its name and its design. You may not:

3. Pro

A Pro licence key unlocks the features marked with an orange dot. The key carries the name of the person it was issued to and is for that person’s own computers. The key is checked on your PC, with no online activation. Some keys have an end date, which is shown in Settings › Pro.

When Pro licences go on sale, the price, what is included, payment and refunds are shown before you pay, and they form part of these terms for that purchase. Statutory rights you have as a consumer are not affected.

4. Your documents

Librea does not claim any right in the documents you open, and it does not upload them. You are responsible for having the right to use the files you read, annotate, convert or share.

Librea does not change your documents when you read or annotate them: highlights and notes are kept in its own data folder. Files change only when you ask, for example when you move, rename or delete a file, or save a converted or annotated copy, which is written as a new file beside the original.

5. Services you choose to use

Some features use outside services, only when you use them: book details (Open Library, Google Books, Crossref), word look-up and translation (Wiktionary, Free Dictionary, MyMemory, Wikipedia), notes sync through a cloud folder you pick, and Librea AI through your own AI app or with your own API key (Anthropic or OpenAI). Those services have their own terms, which apply to your use of them. The privacy notice says what is sent to each one.

6. Updates

The installed version checks for new versions and installs them on the next start. Updates may add, change or remove features. The portable copy does not update itself; new versions are on the releases page.

7. No warranty

Librea is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We do not promise that it will be free of errors or that it will open every file correctly. Keep backups of important documents and notes.

8. Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, documents, notes or profits, arising from the use of Librea. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for Librea in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

9. Ending

You can stop using Librea at any time and uninstall it. Your data folder is kept unless you delete it. We may end a licence if its terms are broken, for example if a key is shared or resold.

10. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Kingdom of Morocco, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer protection rules of the country where you live.

11. Changes and contact

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the current version; changes that affect a paid licence do not apply to it without your agreement. Questions: Librea’s questions and bug reports page.
